Cells for Life Platform

The recently opened facility Cells for Life Platform offers resources for joint projects in human and veterinary medicine.
The resources are available for studies of reproductive cells and infections, and include interacting units for cell culture, analysis, selection and storage.
The platform is supported the Infrastructure committee at SLU and the Center for Reproductive Biology in Uppsala.

Uppsala’s diabetes researchers come together in new centre
Uppsala University has decided to establish a multidisciplinary centre focusing on the prevention and treatment of diabetes. Researchers from SLU will contribute with for instance comparative diabetes research.

Collaboration projects granted funding by U-Share
Two projects have been granted funding in this year’s call for applications for collaboration projects. The projects have a PI at either SLU or UU, and a postdoctoral researcher with a PhD from the other university.

Workshop on human–animal interactions
In September, U-Share organised a workshop together with the platform SLU Future Animals, Nature and Health. The broad topic for the workshop was: How do interactions between humans and animals affect their health and welfare?

Due to the current corona situation, the Soapbox Science event in Uppsala has been cancelled.

Wanted: Speakers for Soapbox Science event
U-Share will arrange a Soapbox Science event on Saturday afternoon, 16 May, 2019, and encourages women researchers at SLU and UU to sign up as speakers.

On 14 November, U-Share arranged a meeting together with Uppsala University’s Junior Faculty and Future Faculty at SLU, to provide inspiration for networking and establishing new collaborations.

Johanna Lindahl, veterinary epidemiology researcher at SLU and UU, receives the SIGHT award for her scientific contribution in the area of global health.

The Swedish Research Council has decided that the area Infrastructure for experimental research on large animals will be able to apply for funding in next year’s call for applications.

The B3Africa project, coordinated by Eric Bongcam-Rudloff at SLU and with UU as partner, has been selected by EU Horizon 2020 as a Success Story.

Infrastructure prioritised in Swedish Research Council inventory
U-Share was highly involved when the Infrastructure for experimental research on large animals was submitted to the Swedish Research Council in last year’s need inventory. The infrastructure has now been prioritised as A1, which means that it is considered as having potential to become an infrastructure of national interest and is ready for a call.

The Karin Westman Berg scholarship is funded by the Fredrika Bremer Society and is awarded annually to a doctoral student who has made a notable contribution to research in the spirit of Karin Westman Berg.

Funding for innovation project about typ 2 diabetes
Peter Bergsten at UU has received funding from EIT Health to develop a diagnostic tool for people at risk of developing type 2 diabetes. The project is performed in collaboration with Ali Moazzami at SLU.
